Designing a Color Story That Photographs Beautifully

A strong color story photographs well because it has contrast, depth, and restraint. The goal is not more color. The goal is better composition.

Choose a base and two accents

Start with a neutral base that matches the venue: warm, cool, or balanced. Then add one primary accent and one supporting accent for depth.

Texture and tone matter as much as color.

Add texture, not clutter

Use texture to create richness: linen, velvet, stone, glass, and layered florals. When texture is strong, you can keep the palette simple and still get a luxurious look.

If everything is a statement, nothing is. Give your eye a place to rest.
